Ink name on front free endsheet, light rubbing, a marginal ink intrusion toward the top forecorner of the prelims and fading to insignificance by page 38, faint ink blot about the size of a finger joint on rear board, spine a shade sunned, but an unusually good copy.

London: Chapman and Hall. Reprint of the first separate edition. Handsome nineteenth century tree calf by Mansell, gilt ruled to the upper and lower boards with decorative corner pieces. Five raised bands, gilt decorated compartments and titles on red and black morocco labels to the spine. Gilt inner dentelles, marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Engraved frontispiece and illustrations throughout the text. A very good copy indeed, the binding square and firm with some rubbing to the extremities.
The contents with a small gift inscription to the reverse of the front endpaper are otherwise clean and bright throughout. A very attractive example.
